On Saturday morning, June 20th, a 17-year old DUI driver in Las Vegas was ticketed for a three car accident that hurt three people. The minor, who was not named by police was behind the wheel of a Honda Accord from 1993 as he headed along Pecos Blvd. to Stewart Ave. in Las Vegas. The accident happened around 8:30 in the morning when the driver lost control of the car and started travelling on Pecos Boulevard’s southbound lanes. The car, still out of control, started spinning and then hit a Mazda CRX-& from 2007. 68-year old Shane Edmondson from North Las Vegas was driving the Mazda. After the Mazda and Accord collided both cars then smashed into a Ford Taurus. 51-year old Doel Rojas, also from North Las Vegas, was driving the 2008 Ford. Anyone can get a DUI in Southern Nevada - all you need to do is have a couple drinks and get behind the wheel. Often, when a DUI occurs in Las Vegas, there are injuries that are readily apparent, whether it is an automobile accident, damaged property or even the death of someone driving another vehicle, a pedestrian or even a passenger in the intoxicated driver’s car. In rare cases, however, it can take months for the injuries that can be attributed to drunk driving in Clark County to come to light. One arrest for driving while intoxicated from early February is now being linked to an injury of Nevada’s senior Senator, Senate Minority Leader, Harry Reid. In February, Senator Reid’s brother, Larry Reid, was arrested in connection with a DUI arrest in Boulder City, approximately 25 miles to the east of Las Vegas. In the arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol in Las Vegas, Mr. Larry Reid was cited for a number of additional violations of the law. Those violations include assault of an officer, possession of a weapon while under the influence of alcohol, not wearing a seatbelt and failure to keep to the right. Many [...]

The State of Nevada Senate Transportation Committee today heard a bill (SB144) that would increase penalties for those who drive through crosswalks when pedestrians are present. The bill, sponsored by Senators Parks, Manendo, Woodhouse and Spearman, was not voted on but did take the first steps in becoming a law. Before the bill becomes a law, which would increase Nevada reckless driving penalties when drivers go through a cross walk when a pedestrian is present, the bill must receive another hearing and vote in the Senate transportation committee, be voted on and pass the state Senate, be heard by the Assembly Transportation committee, pass the vote of the Assembly Transportation committee and then pass a vote of the entire Assembly. After the bill has passed all of those votes, if there are differences between the Senate and Assembly versions of the bill, it will need to go to conference committee and then approved a second time by both the Senate and the Assembly. After that, the SB144 will need to be signed by Governor Sandoval. In addition to increasing fines for violating some crosswalks, the bill also doubles fines for exceeding the speed limit in a zone designated to have [...]

Las Vegas is not an old world city like Boston, San Francisco or even The Village in New York City. Our town did not grow up considering pedestrians, horses and carriages. Since Las Vegas grew up during the 20th Century, the highways, roads and streets in Las Vegas were designed for cars and some think the most amount of cars as possible as once. This means elevated highways with on ramps and off ramps merging onto city surface streets, 6-lane surface highways with speed limits up to 55 miles per hour, some without sidewalks, intersections without left turn lanes or left turn traffic lights. The anarchy that can be Las Vegas roads can lead to many traffic accidents, pedestrian deaths and more. Because of that, Las Vegas police have been working diligently to reduce traffic incidents and fatalities in Sin City. To this end, Southern Nevada police departments are developing increasingly creative and topical ways to influence people to stop speeding in Las Vegas.   This January, leading into the biggest football game of the year, in their attempt to alert drivers to the dangers of violating speed limits in Clark County, the Metro police department spoofed the deflategate controversy [...]

A number of high profile DUI arrests and convictions have highlighted again the importance of hiring a DUI attorney if arrested for a Southern Nevada DUI. Last week, a former Ultimate Fighter was arrested on  suspicion of Las Vegas DUI. After being pulled over for driving erractically, Ross Pearson was given a sobriety test in the field and failed. He was arrested and taken to to a nearby police station. He was released a few hours later. If you are arrested for a Las Vegas area DUI, do not accept the initial offer from local district attorneys, has experienced DUI attorneys who have the contacts to possibly secure you a shorter case, with lower fines. Earlier last month, a prominent Democratic Assemblyman, Joe Hogan, was allegedly arrested for a Las Vegas DUI on his way home from a political fundraiser. Assemblyman Hogan is fighting his Clark County DUI arrest because he understands the importance of getting his day in court. Mr. Hogan attests he only had one glass of wine during the Assembly Democratic Fundraiser. Mr. Hogan also declined a Las Vegas Metro Police field sobriety test, instead requested a blood test be taken to determine his alcohol level. [...]

To illustrate our point, earlier this week we wrote about the Las Vegas DUI arrest of a prominent Democratic Nevada legislator. We have now learned that Assemblyman Joe Hogan (D-Las Vegas) is contesting his misdemeanor Las Vegas DUI citation and is certain the blood test he requested in lieu of a breathalyzer will prove his innocence. Assemblyman Hogan asserts he was not intoxicated and had only drunk a “small ammount of wine”. Mr. Hogan was travelling from an Assembly Democratic fundraiser at the Wynn Casino to his home. His arrest occurred on Tam Dr. at Sahara Ave. If you have been cited for a Las Vegas DUI and wish to fight or fix your citation, contact for a free legal consultation. Assemblyman Hogan has followed one of the many of the prescribed strategies for fighting a Las Vegas DUI arrest, however one that does have some risk. While the Assemblyman asserts he was not driving while intoxicated, his request for a blood test over the breathalyzer ha both benefits and drawbacks. A blood test is much more accurate measure of a person’s blood alcohol level, since many breathalyzers tests can erroneously register blood alcohol content if the person has [...]

Unfortunately, as we get older our vision and decision making ability begins to fall. While driving, approximately 85% of the information used to pilot a vehicle comes from the eyes. In particular, night vision drastically reduces as you age. A person’s peripheral vision also declines as they get older. These factors are not helped when an older driver’s concentration and reaction times also deteriorate. All of this can lead to confusion when an older driver enters a congested intersection or needs to make drastic decisions behind the wheel. If you are an older driver, who has been cited after a Las Vegas automobile accident, contact to fight or fix your ticket today. Health factors can also reduce the safety of an elderly driver.
