Henderson and Nye County Coordinate To Increase Tickets For Drunk Driving In Southern Nevada

Increased law enforcement efforts in Henderson, Nevada are making the roads safer and leading to more Henderson DUI citations. The cooperative effort between the Henderson police force and the Nye Sheriff's brought about 9 Southern Nevada driving while intoxicated arrests and 500 summonses were written for other driving offenses. Over 400 cars were stopped during the traffic safety and ticketing event that ran from August 29th to September 7th. The 400 stops brought about 541 tickets for all types of infractions including speeding, running red lights, not using a seat belt and more. In the joint ticketing event 239 drivers received speeding tickets, 23 people received a citation for not stopping at a red light, and 100 were cited for driving with no insurance or without a license (often the license was expired, had been suspended or revoked). The operation, which was funded by a State of Nevada Joining Forces grant, blanketed the entire city of Henderson. the increased law enforcement was in response, in part, to the 13 deaths in Henderson in 2014 that were due to traffic accidents. Joining Forces is a Silver State grant program that assists police agencies when they desire to work together to increase [...]

New Legal Theories For Prevention of Las Vegas DUI

By | 2015-02-19T19:45:49-07:00 February 19th, 2015|Categories: DUI, General Ticket Info, Las Vegas Legal News, Uncategorized|Tags: , , , , |

Las Vegas Police have used DUI checkpoints at particularly dangerous intersections and stretches of highway to reduce the number of fatal and injury collisions with both pedestrians and automobiles. While many have been nabbed by police for Las Vegas DUI at these types of checkpoints, a new legal theory is being purported by some to reduce the ability of police to search your automobile at a roadblock. The theory goes that if you quote the specific Nevada legal statute regarding your and the police’s rights pertaining to a DUI checkpoint stop, you can refrain from opening your window, consenting to a search, invoke your 5th amendment rights and more. In addition to including the placard, an individual should hold their driver’s license on the window. Should you be showing visible signs of intoxication – inability to keep to the right, swerving, speeding or driving excessively under the speed limit – the newly developed legal theory will not dissuade police from searching you. In this type of a situation, the police have probable cause for a search and will likely check you and your vehicle for signs of drinking. If you have been arrested for driving while intoxicated in Clark County, [...]

DUI Crackdown in Henderson

By | 2014-09-20T23:04:50-07:00 September 20th, 2014|Categories: DUI, Online Legal Services|Tags: , , , , , |

A recent enforcement focus saw eight people arrested for DUI by the Henderson police force over a two week period. In addition to the arrests for driving under the influence, police handed out over 80 speeding tickets, as well as citing 15 people for cell phone violations and a slew of other random tickets for driving on suspended, expired or revoked driver’s license, failure to carry insurance, and expired or missing registration tags. It was a busy couple of weeks for the Henderson Police, and a bad time to be a driver on these Southern Nevada roads if you were or even if you just appeared to be doing something wrong. That’s the trouble with these enforcement efforts when local police forces get things like the Joining Forces Grant that this special enforcement was funded by. This grant to the Traffic Unit of the Henderson Police Force came from the Department of Public Safety, through its office of Traffic Safety. With the laudable goal of reducing the number of people killed in car crashes in Nevada, these grants can have unintended consequences. For starters, police are often gauged by the number of arrests and stops they make – that can [...]

By | 2013-09-07T00:13:21-07:00 September 7th, 2013|Categories: DUI, Las Vegas Legal News, Local News|Tags: , , , , , , , |

We wrote recently about the checkpoints that the police in Southern Nevada set up for DUI arrests on Labor Day Weekend. As we said before and in that post, the police were not hiding it. They posted to many media outlets well in advance where they would have checkpoints. Their point was to deter people from driving drunk in the Las Vegas area; they’re hope was that they wouldn’t catch anyone, cut down on the number of drunk drivers, and thereby cutting down on the number of auto accidents in Las Vegas and the surrounding area. The police even listed a number of tips they had to prevent yourself from driving drunk, like giving your keys to a friend, taking public transportation, getting a hotel room near where you planned to party, calling a sober friend or relative if you’ve had too much, or getting a cab and even more than that, programming a cab company’s phone number into your phone before you go out so that you can easily call. Regardless of all that, if you’ve been arrested in Clark County for driving under the influence, you need to visit 24hourticketpower.com today to get a top lawyer who can [...]

Recent studies of accident records and periodicals dating back to the late 1950s has shown that nearly all deaths on the day of the dead are from traffic accidents. Local police departments are asking drivers to drive slowly in residential neighborhoods during Halloween weekend and, when drinking, to take a taxi, use public transportation or have a designated driver. If you get a [...]

Could Case Similar to Rogue DUI Writing Chicago Cop Happen In Las Vegas, NV?

In April 2009, Chicago Law Enforcement Officer Richard Fiorito was accused of falsely writing numerous DUI citations for lesbian and gay motorists he pulled over. At that time, 40 lawsuits were filed against the accused Second City Policeman. Even though there were a significant number of witnesses to the incorrectly written DUI tickets and even videos from a dash mounted camera on his police cruiser, in April 2010, Anita Alvarez, State’s Attorney for Clark County announced that civil rights violations charges would not be pursued against Officer Fiorito. Many of the people the rogue Chicago Police Officer was accused of citing for driving while intoxicated illegally immediately protested the decision and moved forward on individual lawsuits. The Chicago Fiorito case illustrates the importance of never accepting a plea deal from District Attorneys for Las Vegas DUIs or DUIs from any locale. This week, Chicago city government officials announced that the last of the remaining cases resulting from the Fiorito DUI case have been settled. Over 130 people arrested for DUI by Fiorito had their charges dismissed by the Chicago traffic authorities. While Officer Fiorito retired this year, the latest two cases settled by Chicago authorities have resulted in each of [...]
