Not only can motorists be ticketed in some Nevada bicycling laws, but so can bicyclists! Traffic laws in Southern Nevada have been expanded in response to the increasing incidences of Las Vegas pedestrian accidents since 2010. Pedestrian and bicycle accidents happen so frequently in Las Vegas because the city was designed not for pedestrians, horses and buggies like older cities such as Boston, Providence and San Francisco, but instead for car transportation. Instead of quaint two lane roads with some parking, Las Vegas has 6-lane and 8-lane roads that drivers can travel at speeds up to 55 miles per hour – and those are motorists that are obeying the speed limit. Those who violate bicycle safety laws in Las Vegas are ticketed for Careless driving in Las Vegas. Some Nevada laws treat bicyclists as vehicles on the road, other laws treat bicyclists as pedestrians. For example, if you are attempting to take a left and a bicyclist is in a cross walk, you can be ticketed with driving carelessly in Southern Nevada by crossing the crosswalk while the bicyclist is still in it – regardless of where the cyclist is in the cross walk. Laws that treat cyclists like vehicles [...]

The Joining Forces Grant is back at it again, with Henderson being the focus of careless driving tickets in Las Vegas for failure to yield to pedestrians. We wrote about this program very recently, and the number of people ticketed in North Las Vegas for pedestrian safety and careless driving. Well, the tickets keep on coming. This time, as we mentioned, was focused on a different part of the valley. Police issued over 110 traffic tickets in Henderson for failure to yield to a pedestrian, which generally falls under the legal umbrella of careless driving. Henderson police officers also issued a number of tickets for other violations that they saw during their stepped up enforcement program, which lasted a week. Only one pedestrian was ticketed for not crossing the street safely or in a marked crosswalk or with the traffic light. That number is surprisingly low, given the number of pedestrian accident injuries in Southern Nevada when people were crossing the roadway either not in a crosswalk or against the walk light. Police also issued a whole bunch of tickets for drivers with other kinds of problems or infractions. Things like driving without current insurance, driving with a suspended or [...]

Police are once again out in force handing out careless driving tickets in Las Vegas and the surrounding areas to people who fail to stop for pedestrians in marked crosswalks. This is not an uncommon thing for police in the Las Vegas area to focus on, as pedestrian deaths have often been a major problem in the area. Certainly it is not all the fault of drivers, and police are aware of this. They also target pedestrians during these enforcement crackdowns, issuing citations for jay walking and the like. The way these traffic enforcement often work is through the use of a decoy. Whichever department or departments are involved in the program will use someone, usually a police officer, to try to catch people in the act of not stopping for a pedestrian crossing the road. The decoy usually wears something bright and highly visible, sometimes wearing something quite outlandish like a Halloween-type costume. They then begin to cross the road. Anyone who doesn’t stop is given a careless driving citation in Southern Nevada. Police will also just camp out at dangerous intersections and wait and watch, seeing which drivers fail to stop for normal pedestrians. They usually pick these [...]

Crosswalk laws are complicated, especially in Las Vegas, where we have two lane roads, four lane roads, even eight lane roads. These varied traffic environments can cause confusion and even result in additional tickets for careless driving in Las Vegas. Essentially, if a person is crossing a six lane road and they are on the other side of the traffic island from your car, you can go across the cross walk while they are walking across on the other side. However, once they get to the same side of the traffic island as your automobile, you are required to allow them to cross the street. If you have been ticketed for careless driving in Southern Nevada and wish to fight or fix your ticket, log onto today. While drivers are allowed to enter intersections with flashing yellow lights with caution, they must also yield [...]

The girl was rushed to Univ. Medical Center for observation, with the fear she may have suffered a head injury. An Illinois state trooper with more than a decade's experience on the roads recently granted an interview to a reporter who wanted to learn more about a day in the life of the man who doles out traffic ticket justice like...well, like it's his job. (Which it is.) Trooper Jason Heinzi has issued more than 5,000 traffic tickets, in large part to speeding drivers. Although his notoriety -- he outpaces his nearest rival by about fourteen percent -- is largely specific to his state and his patrol routes of choice, the insights he shared are definitely applicable to the context of Las Vegas tickets. If you are in a hurry, you're better off driving eight or nine miles over the speed limit than eleven or twelve. Maybe it is a psychological thing; maybe police officers don't feel like it is worth their effort to chase down such small fry. In any case, the evidence from Trooper Heinzi's beat suggests that only one percent of tickets issued were for minor speed infractions. About one-fourth of tickets go to drivers who drive at 11-19 MPH over the speed limit, which will cost you two points on your Nevada driver license. But the [...]
