Different Kinds of Nevada Careless Driving Citations

Though we are mostly an online traffic ticket service for Las Vegas and the surrounding area, we still follow traffic law all over the state. Good ideas spread, and sometimes bad ideas spread even more quickly. So we perked our ears up when we saw news of a new Nevada traffic law going into effect in Reno. What are our urban compatriots up north up to these days? They’re making a separate traffic offense for careless driving in Nevada, if only inside their Reno city limits. Additions to the no no list include eating, doing any kind of makeup or face pruning including but not limited to shaving, and more. The actual infraction that this has become is called “Inattentive Driving” and also includes the heinous act of brushing your teeth. At least according to some reports, kids distracting you is also a newly leveled traffic violation under this new provision. Even Fido and Katty Cat are not immune from being the proximal causes of this statute. It’s not a cheap Nevada traffic citation, either, running up to and including three hundred and five dollars. It’s not surprising that the list of banned and newly harsher penalized activities includes doing [...]

Not only can motorists be ticketed in some Nevada bicycling laws, but so can bicyclists! Traffic laws in Southern Nevada have been expanded in response to the increasing incidences of Las Vegas pedestrian accidents since 2010. Pedestrian and bicycle accidents happen so frequently in Las Vegas because the city was designed not for pedestrians, horses and buggies like older cities such as Boston, Providence and San Francisco, but instead for car transportation. Instead of quaint two lane roads with some parking, Las Vegas has 6-lane and 8-lane roads that drivers can travel at speeds up to 55 miles per hour – and those are motorists that are obeying the speed limit. Those who violate bicycle safety laws in Las Vegas are ticketed for Careless driving in Las Vegas. Some Nevada laws treat bicyclists as vehicles on the road, other laws treat bicyclists as pedestrians. For example, if you are attempting to take a left and a bicyclist is in a cross walk, you can be ticketed with driving carelessly in Southern Nevada by crossing the crosswalk while the bicyclist is still in it – regardless of where the cyclist is in the cross walk. Laws that treat cyclists like vehicles [...]

The Joining Forces Grant is back at it again, with Henderson being the focus of careless driving tickets in Las Vegas for failure to yield to pedestrians. We wrote about this program very recently, and the number of people ticketed in North Las Vegas for pedestrian safety and careless driving. Well, the tickets keep on coming. This time, as we mentioned, was focused on a different part of the valley. Police issued over 110 traffic tickets in Henderson for failure to yield to a pedestrian, which generally falls under the legal umbrella of careless driving. Henderson police officers also issued a number of tickets for other violations that they saw during their stepped up enforcement program, which lasted a week. Only one pedestrian was ticketed for not crossing the street safely or in a marked crosswalk or with the traffic light. That number is surprisingly low, given the number of pedestrian accident injuries in Southern Nevada when people were crossing the roadway either not in a crosswalk or against the walk light. Police also issued a whole bunch of tickets for drivers with other kinds of problems or infractions. Things like driving without current insurance, driving with a suspended or [...]

Police are once again out in force handing out careless driving tickets in Las Vegas and the surrounding areas to people who fail to stop for pedestrians in marked crosswalks. This is not an uncommon thing for police in the Las Vegas area to focus on, as pedestrian deaths have often been a major problem in the area. Certainly it is not all the fault of drivers, and police are aware of this. They also target pedestrians during these enforcement crackdowns, issuing citations for jay walking and the like. The way these traffic enforcement often work is through the use of a decoy. Whichever department or departments are involved in the program will use someone, usually a police officer, to try to catch people in the act of not stopping for a pedestrian crossing the road. The decoy usually wears something bright and highly visible, sometimes wearing something quite outlandish like a Halloween-type costume. They then begin to cross the road. Anyone who doesn’t stop is given a careless driving citation in Southern Nevada. Police will also just camp out at dangerous intersections and wait and watch, seeing which drivers fail to stop for normal pedestrians. They usually pick these [...]

Crosswalk laws are complicated, especially in Las Vegas, where we have two lane roads, four lane roads, even eight lane roads. These varied traffic environments can cause confusion and even result in additional tickets for careless driving in Las Vegas. Essentially, if a person is crossing a six lane road and they are on the other side of the traffic island from your car, you can go across the cross walk while they are walking across on the other side. However, once they get to the same side of the traffic island as your automobile, you are required to allow them to cross the street. If you have been ticketed for careless driving in Southern Nevada and wish to fight or fix your ticket, log onto today. Las Vegas area police departments are paying careful attention to these Clark County careless driving statutes due to the large number of pedestrian deaths in 2012 and the even increased rate of Las Vegas pedestrian accident fatalities in 2013. Las Vegas drivers must also take special attention to flashing yellow lights in Las Vegas intersections. While drivers are allowed to enter intersections with flashing yellow lights with caution, they must also yield [...]

With 26 people having been killed in Las Vegas pedestrian accidents so far in 2012, all police departments across the Southern Valleys have increased their patrols and other efforts to make the roads safer for those on foot. While traffic fatalities in the United States have shown a dramatic decline over the past two years, Clark County and the rest of the Las Vegas area have shown an alarming rise in both pedestrian deaths and other auto accident fatalities. However, due to the quick thinking of a North Las Vegas driver, the Las Vegas pedestrian accident death toll is one less today. As a 5-year old girl girl ran out from between two parallel parked cars on Maple Mesa St., directly in front of a car heading down the North Las Vegas street. The driver immediately swerved and instead of the young girl being hit head on, she was only grazed by the vehicle’s side mirror. North Las Vegas police credit the driver with saving the girl’s life. The girl was rushed to Univ. Medical Center for observation, with the fear she may have suffered a head injury. If you have been ticketed for a Las Vegas pedestrian accident, and wish to fight or fix your ticket, log onto today. So far this year, there have been 69 Las Vegas traffic fatalities. Reckless driving tickets a new threat for Las Vegas drivers

A new law took effect today that has bicycle advocates cheering and some Nevada drivers sneering. Although our state generally embraces the robust and growing outdoor-sports culture that attracts tourists and satisfies residents, some of our fellow Nevadans become territorial when it comes to their privileges to drive their automobiles without restriction. Holding too tightly to this sense of privilege may become even costlier now: it could result in a Las Vegas reckless driving ticket. Under the new law -- known colloquially in bike circles as the "Three Sweet Feet" rule -- motorists must give cyclists a three-foot clearance when they pass them on a roadway. Depending on who you ask, this law may create a new privilege for pedal-driven travelers or it may codify a widely utilized, existing practice. In order to avoid Las Vegas car accidents, many drivers already clear cyclists by traveling into the next lane of traffic. But when this is not possible, many drivers put haste before caution and "buzz" bicycle riders by passing them with only the thinnest of margins. With this new Nevada cycling law in effect, drivers will have to make good choices and only pass cyclists when  there is sufficient room [...]
