Thanksgiving DUI Checkpoints in Las Vegas

Police appear to be doing a slow rollout of their holiday checkpoints for DUI in Southern Nevada. We say they appear to be doing a “slow rollout” because they haven’t yet announced the locations and times, which they usually do. It’s possible that they won’t announce the locations, given that this particular practice has come under fire as an inefficient method to stop people from driving under the influence in Las Vegas and across the country. DUI checkpoints in Clark County were announced to begin the night before Thanksgiving and end Sunday evening after the holiday. Police offered few details other than that they would be setting up the checkpoints in places that have seen a lot of injury accidents in Las Vegas in an effort to stem the tide, particularly of fatalities. Given that alcohol consumption was a factor that contributed to more than one third of the fatal car accidents in Southern Nevada last year, this is not an unreasonable nor bad goal. However, our top Las Vegas DUI lawyers at 24hourticketpower.com know that’s not the whole story. First, DUI checkpoints have been said to be really terrible ways of lowering injury accidents. Second, we know how many [...]

Las Vegas DUI Sentences Vary Widely

It’s important to understand the difference that a good lawyer can make when you’re facing a DUI arrest in Las Vegas. That linked article gives you a stark reality check and case study: two people facing nearly identical charges, one gets 20 years in prison the other gets four months. Not four years, she was sentenced to four months. That’s a major difference. It’s also one that our top Las Vegas DUI attorneys at 24hourticketpower.com know well: as we’ve represented clients charged with driving under the influence, we’ve seen others in court try to go it alone, or with an inexperienced or incompetent attorney. We know the difference we can make, we see it in the difference between what our clients outcomes are, and what others get. If you’re facing a Clark County DUI charge and want a good lawyer to fight it visit 24hourticketpower.com today. So what accounts for these the difference in these two cases? First, let’s look at the cases themselves. Both involve individuals were tested at nearly double the legal limit of blood alcohol level. In both cases people were killed as a result of the accident – two people in a separate car in one [...]

Henderson DUI Crackdown Catches Six

By | 2014-11-18T01:19:09-07:00 November 18th, 2014|Categories: DUI, Online Legal Services|Tags: , , , , |

You have to watch out for stepped up police enforcement around the holidays. A recent crackdown on DUIs in Henderson, Nevada, raked in a whole lot of people for driving under the influence, and any number of other traffic violations and infringements. These are common, and they’re usually publicized. But it’s not secret when extra police are going to be out on the streets and more DUI checkpoints in Las Vegas and set up across the valley. That’s useful to remember as we head into the busiest of holiday seasons: November, December and January. You can expect police to be out and about over the long weekends, the days and nights themselves of the holidays themselves and New Year’s Eve in a particular, for hopefully painfully obvious reasons. It’s no secret that people engage in the holiday cheer on the holidays, in fact it should be clear from the name. Should you be unlucky enough to be on the receiving end of one of these Las Vegas DUIs in a stepped up holiday enforcement the best thing you can do is visit 24hourticketpower.com to make sure they holidays aren’t consumed by dealing with it. Getting a top DUI lawyer in [...]

End to Las Vegas DUI Case for Cop

By | 2014-11-08T21:47:24-07:00 November 8th, 2014|Categories: DUI, Online Legal Services|Tags: , , , , |

We have what appears to be a final update in a case we wrote about recently of a Southern Nevada drunk driving arrest involving a police officer. Of course it involved a police officer, you say, or it wouldn’t have been an arrest! In this case, however, the police officer was the one being arrested after allegedly leading other officers on a high speed chase that included driving the wrong way down multiple Southern Nevada roadways. The officer and his legal team have agreed to a deal on the charges with prosecutors in the case. The officer, actually former officer but we’ll get to that later, will have eight of the charges against him dropped in exchange for pleading guilty to eluding police, which is a felony, and “no contest” to a charge of driving under the influence in Las Vegas. If you’re thinking that this is a sweetheart deal for a cop, you’d be wrong. We here at 24hourticketpower.com get solid deals like this for clients accused of Las Vegas DUI all the time. Without a top Clark County DUI lawyer like we have at 24hourticketpower.com you may very well end up getting hit with all the charges, with [...]

Working out a plea deal for a Las Vegas DUI is the best course of action in many circumstances. There’s only one way we can know that, though, and that’s by knowing your case. That’s why, if you’ve been booked for a Clark County driving under the influence charge, the first thing you should do is visit 24hourticketpower.com. Different Las Vegas DUI Suspensions

By | 2014-10-09T00:19:41-07:00 October 9th, 2014|Categories: DUI, Las Vegas Legal News|Tags: , , , , |

There are certain problems related to a Las Vegas DUI that 24hourticketpower.com cannot help you with. It’s strange for us to say that, since we offer very comprehensive legal services for persons charged with driving under the influence in Nevada. However, a recent story in Las Vegas news on a DUI related suspension reminds us that there are things even we cannot help you with. Before your imagination gets the better of you, we’re talking about Michael Phelps. The swimmer, who is the most decorated Olympic champion in any sport, period, will be suspended from the USA Swimming Team for a whopping six months. Like we said initially, this is one of the few things that 24hourticketpower.com couldn’t help fix on a Las Vegas DUI. Our top traffic lawyers can help fight a DUI outright if the case and facts and particularly circumstances warrant it. We can get sentences and fines reduced, help with license suspension times, set up awareness or treatment programs that get you a more favorable outcome from the case, and much more. We are not, however, qualified to argue against a suspension handed down by USA Swimming’s governing body and board. It’s good, we suppose, to [...]

Last Chapter in Las Vegas DUI Case

By | 2014-09-24T00:53:04-07:00 September 24th, 2014|Categories: DUI, Las Vegas Legal News|Tags: , , , , |

Likely the final chapter, at least for years to come, has been written in the Las Vegas DUI case of the woman Hummer struck another vehicle last year, killing the man driving the vehicle and inflicting minor injuries on his two year old son. The woman driving the vehicle, a former dancer at the Las Vegas gentleman’s club the Spearmint Rhino, was sentenced today to 5 to 15 years for the fatal accident and her driving under the influence. The woman, Shauna Miller, had pled guilty to the DUI charge of causing substantial bodily injury or death. Having served 18 months in prison awaiting trial and final sentencing, it is possible she could be released at the beginning of her sentence some three and a half years from now. Miller begged for forgiveness from the family at the sentencing. She professed that she never intended to injure or kill anyone, and that the guilt and sorrow at what she had done weighed on her deeply every single day. The family of the deceased seemed unmoved by her plea and words, asking the judge to hand down the maximum penalty for the charge of this Clark County DUI resulting in serious [...]

DUI Crackdown in Henderson

By | 2014-09-20T23:04:50-07:00 September 20th, 2014|Categories: DUI, Online Legal Services|Tags: , , , , , |

A recent enforcement focus saw eight people arrested for DUI by the Henderson police force over a two week period. In addition to the arrests for driving under the influence, police handed out over 80 speeding tickets, as well as citing 15 people for cell phone violations and a slew of other random tickets for driving on suspended, expired or revoked driver’s license, failure to carry insurance, and expired or missing registration tags. It was a busy couple of weeks for the Henderson Police, and a bad time to be a driver on these Southern Nevada roads if you were or even if you just appeared to be doing something wrong. That’s the trouble with these enforcement efforts when local police forces get things like the Joining Forces Grant that this special enforcement was funded by. This grant to the Traffic Unit of the Henderson Police Force came from the Department of Public Safety, through its office of Traffic Safety. With the laudable goal of reducing the number of people killed in car crashes in Nevada, these grants can have unintended consequences. For starters, police are often gauged by the number of arrests and stops they make – that can [...]

Another Supporter of Changes for Pot DUIs in Las Vegas

By | 2014-09-12T00:55:53-07:00 September 12th, 2014|Categories: DUI, Marijuana DUI, Online Legal Services|Tags: , , , , , , , |

It seems like not a week can go by without some high profile news, if you’ll forgive the pun, regarding marijuana and laws against driving under the influence in Las Vegas. The big news out this week on Nevada law and marijuana DUI’s is that the district attorney of by far the largest and most important county in the state – us here in Clark County, of course – has come out vocally in favor of overhauling Nevada’s “per se” limit for determining legal impairment for driving high. This is a story that we’ve been following for some time. The debate over marijuana DUIs in Las Vegas and all of Nevada took a more high profile turn this past session of the state’s legislature. Laws were changed to allow for medical marijuana patients to purchase or cultivate marijuana. Though medical marijuana use had been approved by voters more than a decade ago, the state had sat on its hands in terms of setting the rules for it, effectively keeping it outlawed. Now, it seems, some sanity is coming into the debate. Not that we are advocating for marijuana, legalization, people to drive impaired, no. None of that. Of course not. [...]

Las Vegas DUI Checkpoints Questioned

By | 2014-09-02T23:46:39-07:00 September 2nd, 2014|Categories: DUI, Online Legal Services|Tags: , , , , , , , |

It depends on what you’re definition of efficient is. Broadly across most aspects of life, the definition of the thing is important, whether that thing be success, happiness and liberty, all the way down to the “efficient” use of police to prevent vehicle accidents and mayhem through enforcement of DUIs here in Las Vegas and across Nevada and the country as a whole. As defined by the author of this recent argument against DUI checkpoints in Las Vegas (and more broadly as well), Sarah Longwell, it’s about catching people. That’s boiling it down a little, sure, but that’s her point. She sets up the postulate that checkpoints aren’t useful because they only end up arresting a very small percentage of their, um, clients. Maybe “victims” is a better word, given the number of people that are captured as innocent bystanders: made to wait in a vehicle line for some time. It’s true: if your goal is pure enforcement, that is, catching the greatest number and percentage of people that you can and arresting them for driving under the influence in Clark County, your money appears to be better spent on roving patrols. We neither particularly disagree with the author’s numbers [...]

Las Vegas DUI Enforcement Increased for Labor Day Weekend

By | 2014-08-28T02:56:22-07:00 August 28th, 2014|Categories: DUI, Las Vegas Legal News, Online Legal Services|Tags: , , , , |

Big holiday weekend is coming up, and 24hourticketpower.com wants you to be safe and happy. That includes, among other things, avoiding unpleasant run ins with law enforcement. Let’s be honest: while truly not the worst thing in the world in an absolute sense, a DUI is not at all how you’d like to cap off your Labor Day festivities. It would even be worse to get a Las Vegas DUI at the start of the weekend than the end, given that the likely arrest and booking would effectively end your mini vacation regardless. That’s why you should be extra cautious this weekend, as Las Vegas area police forces are announcing stepped up efforts that have started already, and will continue through the end of the holiday weekend, to arrest people for DUI in Clark County, and across the state. If you get stopped and charged with driving under the influence anywhere in Southern Nevada, 24hourticketpower.com has your back. Visit us today to see how easy fighting a Las Vegas DUI online can be, and how much time, effort, legal trouble and money it can save you. It’s not uncommon to see traffic and safety enforcement stepped up around a holiday [...]

Marijuana DUI Laws in Nevada Under Scrutiny

By | 2014-08-26T00:42:22-07:00 August 26th, 2014|Categories: DUI, Las Vegas Legal News, Marijuana DUI|Tags: , , , , , , , |

The debate over laws specifying how you may be charged with a DUI for marijuana in Las Vegas continues to, well, not exactly rage, but slow burn (if you’ll pardon us). The issue is one we have written about several times before, and continue to follow as the legal and policy debates move forward. If you have a good handle on this issue already then skip the next paragraph to go straight to the discussion of the recent updates. For those of you who aren’t familiar, the next paragraph is a brief primer. Marijuana laws were just recently changed to allow for the use of marijuana as proscribed by a doctor, and set rules for those who would wish to grow, distribute, sell, or otherwise handle the new industry. The legislator made these changes in the most recent legislative session in the Spring of 2013 (not a typo, it was over a year ago). It wasn’t that they legalized medical marijuana, that had been done over a decade ago by voters in a referendum. What they did is what the legislature should have done just about as long ago, that is, set rules so people could actually obtain legal medicinal [...]

Actor and former Saturday Night Live star Chris Kattan was charged in driving under the influence back in February. While not shocking that an actor was charged with this particular crime, some people may be shocked at what he was able to get, or not get, from his sentencing. Then again, maybe people won’t be shocked to hear that a celebrity with money got a lighter sentence than perhaps they’re used to hearing about, or got themselves. We here at 24hourticketpower.com are experienced at getting our clients movie star outcomes for their Las Vegas DUI charges at regular people prices. Because our online system streamlines the process we’re able to save everybody money, which means we’re actually able to get you even better prices, and just as good outcomes. But let’s back up a step and talk about what Mr. Kattan was sentenced to, and what he was sentenced for. First, your Chris Kattan interlude: After perhaps too long a night at the Roxbury, Kattan crashed his Mercedes. The DUI made news in Las Vegas and around the country for the severity of the accident – he struck a Department of Transportation road crew’s vehicle that they had with there [...]

Final Sentencing in Las Vegas DUI Case

Just about the final chapter has now been written in the Las Vegas DUI case against the driver of the vehicle which smashed into the Egg and I over a year ago. With the driver taking a plea deal, the sentence was meted out today and it is a six to twenty stay in prison for the driver. Four of the charges in this driving under the influence case in Clark County were dropped as part of the defendant’s guilty plea and deal. The lawyer for the defense was said to have been looking to get a 2 year minimum, so a two to twenty, not the six to twenty received at the sentencing. While we were not on the inside of this case, we at 24hourticketpower.com do know that a good lawyer can make all the difference in the world in this type of a case, and outcome. That’s why we offer top DUI lawyers in Las Vegas as inexpensively as we can because we know how much your freedom means. DUI Arrests in Las Vegas Stay Low

By | 2014-07-29T01:40:17-07:00 July 29th, 2014|Categories: DUI, Las Vegas Legal News, Online Legal Services|Tags: , , , , |

The Las Vegas Metro Police Department has released updated numbers on year to date DUI arrests in Las Vegas, traffic accidents and fatalities, and the causes of those fatal accidents. A trend that we had seen in previous months of these reports is the year over year decline in the number of people arrested for driving under the influence in Southern Nevada in Metro’s jurisdiction. While a decline is still a good thing, the numbers are still very high. There have been close to 3,000 DUI arrests so far in Clark County made by Metro. That’s a lot. It is lower in comparison to the almost 3,500 DUI arrests in 2013 by this time, and quite a few less than 2012 which saw more than 4,000 people arrested for driving under the influence by this time. If you’re one of the people that make up these statistics, that is, if you’ve been arrested for driving under the influence in Las Vegas, 24hourticketpower.com can help. We can help you take care of your case quickly, effectively, and inexpensively through our online system that puts you in touch with our top DUI lawyers. DUI for Marijuana in Las Vegas Stirs Controversy

By | 2014-07-19T23:43:42-07:00 July 19th, 2014|Categories: DUI, Las Vegas Legal News, Online Legal Services|Tags: , , , , |

Medical marijuana is about to go fully live across the state, and this has another round of articles discussing the potential complications of medical legalization as it relates to driving under the influence of marijuana charges in Las Vegas and across Nevada. Of course there are knee jerks aplenty on both sides, though predominantly from what we’ve seen they’re coming from the anti-marijuana side. In this recent article, spokespersons from the Nevada Highway Patrol, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Transportation Research Center and a doctor, Mel Pohl, who is the medical director of a local recovery center are quoted on what can be called the Chicken Little side of the debate. Namely, they all argue, to one degree or another, that the full legalization of medical marijuana, which is in the process of becoming reality in Las Vegas, will bring more accidents, more traffic deaths, and all this from more people driving high. The thing is, there are also plenty of arguments on the other side. No matter how set in their convictions these folks are, they don’t really know. It’s all conjecture. Furthermore, our testing for impairment is roundly criticized as flawed. It measures [...]

Las Vegas DUI Case Finally Moving to a Close

The sad story of that we’ve been following of the woman who was charged with driving under the influence in Las Vegas after her Hummer crashed into another vehicle, killing the driver and seriously injuring his two year old son, is coming to a close. The woman who was driving, Shauna Miller, pled guilty in Clark County District Court to a single count of felony DUI causing injury or death. The sentencing is really all that is left of the legal proceeding, as the plea had been worked out in advance of the hearing and was agreed to by the judge. Ms. Miller’s full jury trial for Clark County DUI causing injury or death was set to begin just a week from when she accepted the plea deal, this last Thursday the 10th. If you’ve been arrested for driving under the influence anywhere in Southern Nevada and need a good lawyer to help you fight it, 24hourticketpower.com is the first place you should look. Ms. Miller, an exotic dancer at the Spearmint Rhino, was heading home from work around seven in the morning at the time of the accident. She crashed into a Ford Escort driven by the deceased at [...]

4th of July Sees Merriment, DUIs in Las Vegas

By | 2014-07-09T23:56:57-07:00 July 9th, 2014|Categories: DUI, Local News, Online Legal Services|Tags: , , , , , , |

For a recent article in the Las Vegas Sun, the author, Wesley Juhl, went out on patrol with a couple of regular officers for a ride along on the 4th of July. We can imagine that this isn’t a typical day in the life of a police officer, as so much more is going on than your regular shift. Perhaps this is a good thing, and perhaps a bad thing – it might be nice to hear about what a regular day is like to give us an idea, as opposed to a crazy day like the 4th. Whatever the case, we were interested in one part of the story that seemed lacking: there was nothing written about traffic tickets or DUI arrests in Las Vegas. We know from the statistics, and we know from our experience, and we know from common sense that the 4th of July, like any celebratory holiday, sees its fair share of traffic tickets for anything from speeding to illegally celebrating in the streets. We know, above all, that you see more DUI arrests in Las Vegas on holidays like the 4th of July than you do lots of other times. We know because we [...]

Las Vegas DUI Checkpoints for 4th of July

By | 2014-07-05T23:17:58-07:00 July 5th, 2014|Categories: DUI, Online Legal Services|Tags: , , , , , |

Quite predictably, Las Vegas Metro Police were out in force last night for the 4th of the July celebrations. Like any big holiday weekend, the police set up checkpoints at known problem intersections to catch more people driving under the influence in Las Vegas. They also set them up, as well as broadcast them in advance, to try to proactively stop people from doing it in the first place – if people know checkpoints are out there, the thinking goes, they will choose to get taxis or safe and sober rides from friends rather than risk getting arrested. If you’re arrested for driving under the influence in Southern Nevada, visit 24hourticketpower.com today for the best Las Vegas online legal services. The problem, of course, comes in the details of the implementation. Leave aside the arguments that we’ve written about before that these checkpoints don’t work as well as other enforcement methods. It all depends on human work, and is therefore subject to human error. DUI breath testers need periodic calibration, without which the results can land an innocent person behind bars and charged with DUI in Clark County. More police scrutiny can lead to more cases of human error in [...]
